Peer Support Specialist Job Description 

Light House Recovery Services is seeking a compassionate, kind and personable Certified Peer Support Specialist to join our leading team. The ideal candidate will have relevant and relatable life experiences like those who they are choosing to support.  A Peer Support Specialist for Lighthouse Church is someone spiritual who is successful in recovery. They will use their lived experiences with substance use disorder and mental health disorders to walk alongside individuals in our community who struggle with the same life issues. Peer Support Specialists focus on providing a non-judgmental listening ear while mentoring and coaching participants while navigating a life of recovery. Offering support through validation, encouragement, empowerment and highlighting participant strengths, peer support specialists cultivate relationships that are built on trust, respect, empathy and mutual experiences. 

Peer Support Specialist Responsibilities 

• Meet with peers in the community and/or their homes to establish and maintain relationships that are built on trust, respect, empathy, mutual experience and choice.  
• Assist peers in identifying their personal recovery goals, exploring creative strategies to increase personal wellness. 
• Models and practices communication skills, recovery-oriented living skills, effective coping skills, and self-help strategies with individuals and groups 
• Assist peers in working on overcoming barriers to maintaining independence and help peers practice skill building, budgeting, setting up transportation, making health care appointments, staying medication compliant etc.  
• Relate to your own lived experiences when discussing options for change and improvement with the participant.  
• Connect participants to other supportive services and resources within the community.

Requirements 

• Peer Support Certification is required but can be attained upon employment offer.  
• Must possess a valid driver's license and insurance. 
• Lived experience with a mental health diagnosis 
• Weekly attendance at church services and Celebrate Recovery.  
• Mental Health First Aide 
• Must be able to work with Medicaid and other billable services.
