This year, we have several projects and ministries that we would like to grow with the donations from Giving Hearts Day, as listed below:
Our bike ministry started this past spring. With a few ambitious volunteers collecting bikes out of dumpsters and from boulevards during clean-up week. That grass-roots effort has blossomed into something beautiful and valuable.
At this point, our bike ministry has collected, repaired, and given out 36 bikes to those in need in our community. Our goal is to turn our garage into a better established and equipped space for our volunteers to store, repair, and distribute bicycles to our community at no cost to the recipient.
Your Giving Hearts Day donations could go towards helping those in need begin to develop a sense of independence. If a monetary donation is not something that works for you, we will gladly take any bikes that you may have laying around.
Lighthouse is proud to be a hub for many different valuable community resources.
Church services, bible studies, various events and activities from The Hope in Recovery Center and the 22 recovery meetings that are hosted on Lighthouse properties. When we say that “There is something going on every day of the week!” We mean it!
With all the foot traffic leading to our doors, we have come across an issue. Some of our sidewalks are in rough shape. With heaves and raised ledges at several points, we have concerns about trip hazards. Based upon estimates given by The City of Fargo, we know that this project is going to come at a cost of $30,000+ to replace and repair the sidewalks leading to and from our three properties.
With funds from Giving Hearts Day donations, you can help ensure the safety of all the 600+ people that regularly make their way to the Lighthouse properties to take part in their choice of the community resources that eagerly await them
A goal that Lighthouse holds is to provide quality services to our growing Children's, Youth & Family ministries. We provide weekly programming for children and youth, in addition to periodic family-based events.
Funding from Giving Heart's Day could help us continue funding scholarships for summer camp, Children and Youth curriculum, supplies, and fun activities. In the recent months, we have begun hosting family events aimed at fellowship and integrating children and their families into a supportive and loving community.
We supported many families during our Back-to-School drive earlier this fall. This included supplying backpacks, all their required school supplies and tennis shoes for each student.
Last year, we had a Hat and Mitten tree that provided both adults and children with warm winter gear.
We had a successful pool party at the Hulbert Aquatic Center and look forward to our first sledding party this winter.
A major goal for Giving Hearts Day is to support Lighthouse staff whose primary responsibility is to coordinate outreach to local partners, treatment centers, jails and prisons. In addition, outreach dollars are used to support the communication and coordination of the various recovery programs and efforts in the Lighthouse Recovery Community.
Lighthouse can use a vehicle that would be available for staff to use around town, but in good enough condition to use on out-of-town trips. Such a vehicle will support our outreach to prisons in North Dakota and support other necessary travel. In support of this effort, an in-kind donation of a used, good condition vehicle is also welcome.
A place of love, encouragement, hope and recovery!
